Safe Routes to School Efforts in Lebanon

Lebanon has an existing history of supporting bike/walk to school efforts, including "walking school buses" at the Seminary Hill School and the old School Street School. In 2006-7, the Lebanon Bike-Pedestrian Committee conducted surveys associated with Safe Routes Activities, that led to state funding for Lebanon's Speed Trailer and several Safe Routes activities.
Currently, the City has approval to spend state funds to develop "Comprehensive Travel Plans" for the three elementary schools, which will detail the infrastructure needs, parent and child needs, safety enhancements, and other activities necessary to make Safe Routes projects more commonplace in Lebanon. A Safe Routes to School Task Force is leading the effort to bring this about, with surveys and community forums taking place in September and October 2009.
