Lebanon PTOs Host Safe Routes To School Community Meetings Oct 13th

UPDATE 10/07/2009. The Lebanon and West Lebanon PTOs will host a joint community forum Tuesday Oct. 13th, at 6:30 pm at the Hanover Street School to solicit parent opinions about what types of improvements and programs will help encourage more Lebanon children and their parents to walk or bike to school. Through the summer and early fall of 2009, the Lebanon Safe Routes to School Task Force has been meeting to lay groundwork for enhanced Safe Routes to School efforts at Lebanon's three elementary schools. The Task force has initiated a significant step this past week by posting an online Safe Routes to School Survey for parents. Families with elementary-age students in Lebanon schools received a e-mail and/or written invitation to participate in the survey. To date more than 30% of parents at each school have responded. The survey asks information from parents about barriers to walking/biking to school, as well as other questions that will help the Lebanon community understand what efforts it needs to take to encourage more families to consider walking and biking to school a healthy, smart, and safe option for their children.

The Task Force is hoping to work with the Lebanon and West Lebanon PTOs to schedule a joint meeting in October to solicit direct ideas from parents and children about how to make walking and biking to school more attractive to families. More information about this meeting will be coming soon.
